Sheeja Anandan, a 41-year-old Indian nurse working in Israel’s Ashdod city for the past 7 years, was injured in the Israel-Hamas war that broke out on Saturday. Her Pune-based husband, P Anandan, said he was on a phone call with her at around 12 noon on Saturday, when a missile struck.

After the phone conversation was abruptly cut short by a deafening explosion, Sheeja’s husband was unable to reconnect with her. He reached out to her friends in the vicinity, who told him about the shelling and later visited Sheeja’s location after it stopped.

They said Sheeja was severely injured and transferred to a government hospital.

Speaking to India Today, P Anandan narrated the gravity of his wife's situation. "My wife has undergone four surgeries. Her residence was attacked with a rocket on Saturday afternoon IST," he said.

He explained that the Israeli government had issued warnings about potential attacks, but the intensity of the recent incident took everyone by surprise. He also said that though such attacks have occurred earlier too, this one was severe and sudden.

"After the surgery, she managed to interact briefly through a video call with me, but since then, there has been no communication. She requires more surgery," Anandan said.

He has now urged the Indian government to help him reach war-torn Israel so he could take care of his wife. "My request to the Indian Government is to help me go there; I need to take care of my wife," he implored during the interview.
